Hours & Directions

The Elizabeth Public Library can accommodate 77 vehicles in our parking lot, including 24 earmarked for staff and 2 for handicap accessibility. Free WiFi is available in our parking lot. From the South – Garden State Parkway: Exit at 137. Follow signs to Route 28 (Westfield Ave.). Follow Westfield Ave. to its terminus at North Broad St. Turn right onto North Broad St. and proceed under the railroad overpass. The fourth block on the right is Rahway Ave. The library is situated on this corner across from the Union County Courthouse.

From the South – Route 1 & 9: One block past the Bayway Circle, exit to your right (Grier Ave.). Proceed one block and make a left (Summer St.). Proceed one more block and make another left (South Broad St.). Continue on S. Broad St. for one mile. Library is on the left at the corner of Rahway Ave.

From the South – NJ Turnpike: Exit at 13. Follow signs to Route 439 (Bayway Ave.). Continue for about a mile. Make a right onto South Broad St. (veers at a 45 degree angle — there is a gas station, firehouse, and church at this intersection). Continue for about one and a quarter miles. Library is on the left at the corner of Rahway Ave.

From the North – Garden State Parkway: Exit 140A. Follow signs to Elizabeth onto Morris Ave. Continue on Morris Ave. to its terminus at the railroad overpass (about 5 miles). Make a quick left and right proceeding under the overpass. You are now on Broad St. Proceed four blocks. The library is on the corner of Rahway Ave. to your right.

From the North – Routes 1 & 9: Exit right at S. Broad St. (at the Burger King). Continue for one mile. Library is on the left at the corner of Rahway Ave.

By Train: Take a NJ Transit commuter train (Northeast Corridor or North Jersey Coast Line) to Elizabeth Station. Exit at West Grand St. Proceed half a block to Broad St., turn right and proceed four blocks. Library is at the corner of Rahway Ave. across from the Union County Courthouse.

From the Main Library: Leave the library using the Rahway Ave. exit (one way street — turn left). Proceed underneath the railroad bridge and bear left at the light (Rt. 27 – St. Georges Ave.). Turn right onto Elmora Ave. (Rt. 439). Just before the railroad bridge, turn left onto West Grand St. The Elmora Branch is a short distance from the intersection on the left.

From the Main Library: Leave the library using the Broad St. exit — turn right onto Broad St. Turn left at the traffic light onto Pearl St. (Trinitas Hospital is at the intersection). Follow Pearl St. / S. Pearl St. around Elizabeth High School, and turn left onto South Street just after the High School. Pass underneath the viaduct, and turn right at the traffic light onto Fourth Ave. Turn right onto Palmer Street. The library is in the back of the Peterstown Community Center at the end of the road.

From the Main Library: Leave the library using the Broad St. exit — turn left onto Broad St. Turn right at the light onto Elizabeth Ave. Follow Elizabeth Ave. until you pass under the NJ Turnpike. Turn left onto Third St. The library is located in the building close to the corner of East Jersey St. and Third St., just past the Haitian Church.
