Creator History:

The Janet Home was not a typical orphan asylum, whereby all children were taken in under the age of eighteen. Instead, a child entering Janet Memorial had to be enrolled in one of the local area schools. Edna Donelan and Robert Kallio were both born in Elizabeth and were former residents of the Janet Memorial Home. Ms. Donelen entered Janet in 1944 and remained until 1952, while Mr. Kallio followed his sister Clair (1940-1951), in 1942 and remained until 1952. This collection represents the endeavors of Ms.Donelen and Mr. Kallio, who worked together to find old pictures and newspaper articles some of which date to the 1920s.

Scope and Content Note:

The Janet Memorial Collection consists of two scrapbooks; one is entirely newspaper articles concerning the home or the children that lived there and the other is a blending of both photographs and newspaper clippings.
